2 questions

Samuele Zampini
Dear all,

I have a couple of questions:

1. I have a TAC of the head and I want to reconstruct the volume filled with air, i.e. the nasal
cavity and the air outside the face.
I can do that with the threshold feature and it works pretty well. The point is that I want to
separate the 2 parts. I do this capping the cavity (the nostrils and the trachea) with the
``Level Tracing'' tool. But I can not reconstruct them in a single step. I mean: if I add the
different structures, when I click on the ``merge & build'' button, I can not see anything.
What's wrong? (see attached image)
2. is it possible to get a stl with more triangles? Or I have only the default option?

Thanks for help,

Hi Samuele -

Interesting problem - there are several things you might do.

I think the thing to do is create a 'barrier' plane in the sagittal
orientation that divides the two air cavities.  One way to do this would
be to start with a threshold, like you have been doing.  Then select a
new color, and go to a sagittal view and use the Implicit Rectangle tool
to define the boundary.  Then pick the Change Island tool and click in
the part of the cavity that you want to have in the new index.  Note
that this can all be done on a single label map (no need to use the
multi-structure tools).

Regarding the resolution of the STL files, you can adjust some options
in the ModelMaker to, for example, disable the decimation step.  If
that's not enough, you can use the Resample Scalar Volume module to make
a higher resolution volume before you start editing (i.e. pick smaller
spacing dimensions).

Best,
Steve
