3D modeling of DICOM file not working like they do in tutorials?

haybinkunduz
Hello,

I am trying to do 3D model of DICOM files.
<http://slicer-users.65878.n3.nabble.com/file/n4032095/humerus.png>  I am
loading the file and when I give it volume, bones are not showing up like
they do in tutorials.
<http://slicer-users.65878.n3.nabble.com/file/n4032095/2.png>  Anybody know
how can I see only bones(acromion and humeral).

Csaba Pinter-2
Isn't your dataset an MRI?

Yes they are .dcm files

Csaba Pinter-2
MRI, T1 weighting:
- dense bone - dark (few hydrogen protons)
- air - dark (few hydrogen protons)
- fat - bright
- water (CSF) - dark
etc.

CT: Linear correspondence to electron density, thus bone is one of the brightest materials you'll see in CT

etc.

This post has NOT been accepted by the mailing list yet.
This post was updated on .
Thank you Csaba I understand the T1 weightining but still I have no idea to get  clear view of bones (acromion+humeral) with 3D slicer?

I think what Csaba implying was that it will be hard for you to get clear images of any bone with T1w images, as the modality is not suitable for capturing bone detail.

I don't work with MRI routinely, but I think the second screen capture you showed is as good as you can expect.

Re: 3D modeling of DICOM file not working like they do in tutorials?

haybinkunduz
Oh I understand. Thank you very much.
I have another question too. Is there a way to rotate only one part of the
3D model? I want to rotate only humeral bone while Acromion part stay still.
Is it doable with 3D slicer or should I use a program like Matlab?

Re: 3D modeling of DICOM file not working like they do in tutorials?

Murat Maga
You need to segment humerus from the image and turn into a separate model. You can use the segment editor in Slicer to do that.
https://www.slicer.org/wiki/Documentation/Nightly/Modules/SegmentEditor

Csaba has a very good tutorial as well:

Yes. Each segmentation node can be transformed individually using Transforms module. You can copy/mode segments between segmentation nodes using Segmentation module.
