Antivirus detection

Fabien PERTUY

Hi everyone,

It is my first message to this mailing list so I would like to thank all the slicer team for developing this software, it is really a nice job done there !

The reason for my message is that my institute’s antivirus (Kaspersky endpoint security 10) detected a malware in both “slicer.exe” and “slicerpython.exe”.

Apparently this was first found on January 6th 2016, which is strange as I had slicer 4.5.0-1 installed from November 2015 and slicer 4.4.0 installed from 2014 and nothing was detected until there.

Analysis reports are:

Application :                    Windows Explorer

Utilisateur :                      IGBMC\pertuy (Initiateur)

Module :                           Antivirus Fichiers

Résultat :                         Détecté : Hoax.Win32.ArchSMS.cnpls

Objet :    C:\program files\slicer 4.5.0-1\slicer.exe

And:

Application :                    slicer-4.5.0-1-win-amd64.exe

Utilisateur :                      IGBMC\pertuyadm (Initiateur)

Module :                           Antivirus Fichiers

Résultat :                         Détecté : Hoax.Win32.ArchSMS.cnpou

Objet :    C:\program files\slicer 4.5.0-1\bin\slicerpython.exe

I would like to have your input there.

Does anyone encountered this kind of event ?

Is it a false positive from Kaspersky ?

Best,

Fabien

Re: Antivirus detection

James Hood (PGR)

Hi Fabian,

I had the same problem last week, also with a Kaspersky antivirus package.

http://slicer-users.65878.n3.nabble.com/3D-Slicer-4-5-Installation-td4029806.html

Lead developer Jean-Christophe Fillion-Robin has suggested this is a false positive, and I've added an exception to Kaspersky to rectify this as per his instruction.

I believe Jean-Christophe is in contact with Kaspersky to alert them to this error.

Best regards,

James

Hi James,

Thank you for your input.

Good that it has already been reported, I hope Kaspersky will correct this.

I’ll see to add an exception in the meanwhile.

Best,

Fabien
