Trying to install Slicer on a mac

Ofer Pasternak
Hi,

I am trying to run Slicer3 on an intel macbook pro with OSX 10.5.8.

I have downloaded several pre-compiled stable and snapshot versions and for all of them I get the similar error when trying to run Slicer:

/Applications/Slicer3-3.7-alpha-2010-06-01-darwin-x86/Slicer3 ; exit;
idun:~ ofer$ /Applications/Slicer3-3.7-alpha-2010-06-01-darwin-x86/Slicer3 ; exit;

Error displaying error in a popup: couldn't connect to display "/tmp/launch-nUoytG/org.x:0"
logout

Demian suggested this would be a good place to post this problem, looking for help.
Can you please advise,
Thank you,
Ofer

Hi Ofer -

There was a thread about this in the summer - the tar file is meant to
install symbolic links for some of the shared libraries.  On most
machines this works fine (like our test machines), but apparently
sometimes you get zero length files instead of links.

http://slicer-users.65878.n3.nabble.com/problem-starting-with-OSX-10-5-8-td1591493.html

This might have something to do with the tar files themselves, the
extraction tool, the disk formatting, the os, or something else -- we
never quite narrowed it down.  Maybe we can figure it out now.

Re: Trying to install Slicer on a mac

Ofer Pasternak
Thanks Steve,

Following the link, I did have exactly the same problem.

I have un-tarred the file on a Linux machine and then copied the un-tarred files to the mac. This allowed me to launch slicer on the mac.

Thanks!
Ofer
