Hi -

I don't think anyone has concrete plans - I suppose it depends a lot on Qt and VTK supporting Wayland.  Also I'll bet Slicer would need to move to Qt5, which I'm sure will happen someday but there's no concrete plan for that at the moment.  It would be great if someone wanted to take this on as an experimental project.

Best,
Steve

Hello,

Slicer does not run in Weston desktop environment on Linux x86_64. We are greeted with a 'No X server' message.  I'm not surprised because Wayland is not yet mainstream. Yet it is expected to replace X. Slicer does run well via XWayland though.

So I'm wondering what are your plans on this matter.

Regards.

Qt5 does indeed support Wayland, I don't know for VTK.

Thank you for your reply.

ParaView already supports Qt5 and -- as far as I can tell from mailing list posts -- some people have run it under Wayland.

VTK renders directly into a GL context provided by the windowing system so in theory there should not be any dependency.
